OUR HISTORY

In the summer of 1988, after much prayer and searching for the will of the Lord, a burning passion and love for souls was birthed. A gathering place for prayer and Bible study started in the basement of the home of Bishop Loxley D. Walters. He and his wife, Lady Eloise Walters, were instrumental pioneers in the work occurring in the North Scarborough area. As the Bible study meetings grew in attendees, the necessary need for expansion became clearer. Bishop Walters submitted an application to the Toronto Catholic District School Board for the use of their premises at Saint Gabriel Lalemant Catholic School. At the first official service, 35 people were in attendance and Bishop Walters preached on the theme Gathering Together as One, taken from Deuteronomy 31:7-13.

Two services took place every Sunday at Saint Gabriel and the blessings of the Lord were evident as attendance bloomed. Attendees continued to grow in all subsequent services and, in need of a larger place of worship, Scarborough Family Worship Centre moved to Lester B. Pearson Collegiate. In the event of any summer disruptions, we were given the privilege to use the McLewin Home. As attendees continued to grow, the congregation came to the mutual agreement of leasing Unit 10 at 60 Nugget Avenue, Scarborough, Ontario. Nugget was the home of SFWC for five years, and with increasing attendees, the Lord afforded and blessed us with the immense opportunity to purchase our current location at 6 Donalda Crescent, Scarborough, Ontario in 1993. Since then, we have been continually empowered to effectively serve the community for the past 30 years.
